The Master Plan for the Restoration, Development, and Conservation of the Historic Urban Area of Kaysone Phomvihane City, Savannakhet Province provides a framework for sustainable urban development that balances heritage conservation, tourism, and local economic growth.
Formerly known as Khanthabouly, Kaysone Phomvihane is a historic city with significant cultural, architectural, and natural heritage, including colonial-era buildings, historic urban patterns, public spaces, and its distinctive Mekong River setting.
The Master Plan focuses on the conservation and revitalization of the historic urban area, with strategies for heritage management, restoration of historic buildings, improvement of public spaces, urban design, and sustainable tourism development. It also promotes community participation to ensure that conservation contributes to local identity, quality of life, and economic opportunities.
Through this project, Kaysone Phomvihane aims to strengthen its position as a sustainable cultural and tourism destination, while preserving its historic character and unique heritage for future generations.
